
Kenneth Hoving began sculpting in 1997 when he sat in on a class taught by renowned sculptor Paul Moore. His first commissioned piece was of Savoe Lottinville who was the Director of the OU Press for many years. Subsequent commissions have been of former OU president Paul Sharp, which current President David Boren commissioned for the Paul Sharp auditorium on the OU Campus. I n addition, he completed commissioned works of Julian Rothbaum a former regent of the University of Oklahoma and a major contributor to many programs at OU. Additional works on exhibit at OU include a bust of J.R. Morris a former interim President of OU and its Provost for many years. Another commissioned work is of Jim Crawley an independent oilman from Oklahoma City. Mr. Hoving also completed a 6 ft by 12 ft high relief commissioned by Lynden Christian School in Western Washington State. Other completed works include a bust of what was the oldest living Chippewa Indian in Northern Minnesota in 1970 entitled "Patient Endurance" which is in private collections in both Washington and Montana. A small statue of Daniel Harris who was a great storyteller and one of the founders of Fairhaven, Washington and a 17 inch Viet Nam era Naval Aviator in flight gear. He has also completed a life size sculpture of a four-year-old boy stomping in a puddle of water entitled Sorry, I could't help it". The piece can be mounted to show water coming up from below the foot. Other works depicts a grandfather and grandson with water from an old fashioned hand pump flowing from the father's hand to the grandson's hands and is entitled "Passing . It is approximately 16 inches high and 21 inches long. Spanish Joe, was a mariner around the turn of the 20Th century and is approximately 17 inches. It is in two private collection in the Norman region. These are limited to editions of not more than 15 in most cases.
