Mac King

My name is Mac King. Im 28 years old and work as a registered nurse. Ive been painting for roughly 5 years but became serious about it within the last two. When I begin a painting all I require is two things, a canvas and a color of paint that represents my current mood. I never start a painting with a finished product in mind. I work the paint and let it unfold in its own way, on its own time. I add layer upon layer waiting for its personality to present itself. This sometimes takes many hours or even weeks, but eventually it speaks to me. Once I see something emerge, whether it be a familiar shape or the right mixing of colors, I go with it. I rely heavily upon nostalgia and my own personal experiences working in the ICU to direct my expression. Rarely do people view my work and see my true inspiration behind a piece, which is refreshing. I enjoy for the viewer to explore the painting and experience their own personal meaning or connection.
